The Texas Hill Country is known for its culture of live music and tradition of singer-songwriters. Fredericksburg’s Nimitz Rotary Club is working to bring that spirit to Marktplatz with a year-round music park.
The “Freenotes Harmony Park” features full-size, durable and accessible musical instruments designed for outdoor public spaces, including bells, chimes, drums, metallophones and marimbas.
The park’s mission is to make the joy of playing music available to all ages and experience levels. The instruments are designed around musical scales, allowing anyone to walk up, play and make music.
“The Nimitz Rotary Club sees this kind of community gathering place as an investment in Fredericksburg’s future,” said Ronnie Jung, president of the club.
Proceeds from the club’s annual golf tournament and bunco party, set for Monday, Oct. 12, at Lady Bird Johnson Golf Course, will help fund the project.
