The New Jersey Department of Labor and Workforce Development this week announced a new grant to benefit women and minority residents pursuing careers in construction trades.
The Office of Apprenticeship of NJDOL will make $2 million in awards available for its first round of Fiscal Year 2027 New Jersey Builder’s Utilization Initiative for Labor Diversity.
These funds will support the training of minority and women New Jersey residents in the building and construction industry.
New Jersey Gov. Mikie Sherrill said New Jersey’s construction industry is “strongest when it reflects the people and communities of the state.”
The Women and Minorities in Construction Trades Program works to eliminate barriers that could prevent women and the minority community from seeking career and training opportunities in the construction industry.
Since 2019, NJDOL has awarded more than $24 million in NJBUILD funding through both WMIC and the Women and Minority Veterans in Construction. These grant programs have trained more than 2,500 women and minorities in the construction trade.
