WAGNER, S.D. — For the second week in a row, Winner had to hit the road and play an unbeaten opponent.
But after a setback last week, the fifth-ranked Warriors returned to the win column on Friday night, holding Wagner in check and spoiling the Homecoming celebrations with a 21-6 victory at Nedved-Bich Stadium.

According to Winner senior lineman Jaxon Day, there was a bit of added motivation on the Winner sideline on Friday night to strike back in the Class 11B rivalry after the Red Raiders came away with a 34-20 win on the same field last season. That urgency was only heightened by a 35-20 loss at No. 2 St. Thomas More a week ago.
“This meant something to us,” Day said. “We went 100% all week in practice and we had that motivation, that drive to come out and do it tonight.”
