Niles Notre Dame was off to one of its best starts in school history in boys soccer, unbeaten through their first 10 games this season.
Through their Tuesday, Sept. 15 match against St. Patrick, the Dons (8-2-2 overall as of Sept. 20) had allowed just one goal thus far. Notre Dame relies on its defense across the backline and keeper Joseph Carr leading the team between the posts.
The Dons played a 0-0 draw hosting the rival Shamrocks opening the Chicago Catholic League schedule. Carr made 11 quality saves for his ninth clean sheet this season.
“We remind the boys 10 games into the season that we haven’t lost a game,” Notre Dame coach Mike Smith said. “Which is awesome! It’s probably one of the better starts in school history. It’s exciting! It was a good crowd for the boys to play in front of and an awesome atmosphere.”
Several players are leading the way so far this season for the Dons.
“We have a resilient bunch,” Smith said. “We’ve got a good mix of seniors, senior leaders. We also have a young team. We’ve got 12 sophomores up on varsity. They find a way to win no matter the game or the circumstance.”
