Head football coach Bill O’Brien and former men’s basketball head coach Earl Grant were Boston College’s highest-paid employees for the 2025 fiscal year (FY25), according to the University’s most recent tax filings. O’Brien and Grant earned $3,359,931 and $2,574,563, respectively.
The filings spanned June 2024 to May 2025. Grant was fired in March 2026 after a disappointing five-season stretch for the men’s basketball team and replaced by UConn’s Luke Murray.
This is the first year that O’Brien was included on the University’s payroll after he joined BC in February 2024 and replaced former coach Jeff Hafley, who in his final year was paid $600,000 more than O’Brien.
After O’Brien and Grant, the next five highest-paid employees were John Zona, the University’s chief investment officer and associate treasurer; Blake James, the director of athletics; Andrew Boynton, dean of the Carroll School of Management; Ronnie Sadka, Haub Family Professor at the Carroll School of Management; and David Quigley, provost and dean of faculties.
