Public officials are discussing safety precautions on U.S. 68 after a new roundabout over Interstate 24 was installed at Exit 16. At least two collisions occurred since the road reopened to traffic on Sept. 4.
The first collision on Sept. 8 was a two-vehicle collision with no injuries, and the second occurred on Sept. 10 was a one-vehicle motorcycle crash with a minor non-incapacitating injury, McCracken County Sheriff Ryan Norman said.
“For one, speed was a factor; and for the other one, I believe it would probably be inattention, not paying attention to the yield signs, that sort of thing,” Norman said. “I think anytime you have something new, when people are driving through an area that they've driven through for 30 years or however long, you're going to have some hiccups. You’re going to have some people that forget things have kind of changed through there.”
He said while there have been two reported collisions, it is possible there have been additional unreported incidents.
