Jordan Love didn’t need his offensive linemen to say anything.
Their actions said plenty.
The Green Bay Packers quarterback took a hard hit near the goal line during Sunday’s 20-17 overtime victory against the New York Jets, prompting an immediate reaction from the players responsible for protecting him.
Center Sean Rhyan and rookie left guard Jager Burton quickly confronted Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood after Love absorbed the helmet hit, creating a brief confrontation in the end zone.
Penalties and confrontations aren’t normally something a quarterback wants from his offensive line.
This time, Love couldn’t hide how much the response meant to him.
“I love it,” Love said this week, according to Packers.com. “I definitely told those guys after the game I loved that. I love that they got my back in that situation and that’s how it should be.”
For a Green Bay offensive line dealing with injuries, lineup changes and early-season adversity, it was a revealing moment.
