Pakistan Faces Nearly 300 Deaths Amid Severe Monsoon Floods
Heavy monsoon rains have led to nearly 300 fatalities across Pakistan, with the death toll reaching 299 as of recent reports. Since the onset of intense rainfall on June 26, the country has experienced widespread flash floods and landslides, resulting in over 700 injuries, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The eastern Punjab province has suffered the highest number of deaths, followed by the northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. Among the injured, 239 are children, 204 are women, and 272 are men. Meteorological authorities have issued warnings for upcoming showers and thunderstorms affecting Punjab, KP, and Pakistan-administered Kashmir starting Monday, prompting rescue agencies to prepare for possible emergencies. Traditionally, monsoon rains cause extensive damage in South Asia, but recent years have seen increased severity and unpredictability, attributed to climate change.
