Representatives from Paramount, California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s office and the Writers’ Guild of America are set to hold settlement talks on Oct. 14 and 15, per a new court filing on Tuesday.
The discussions come as Bonta, 11 other state AGs and the labor union are suing to block the $110 billion deal, with an antitrust trial slated for March.
On Friday, a judge ordered the both sides to meet and finalize a date for a two-day settlement conference in late October. At the time, a spokesperson for Bonta’s office told TheWrap the discussions are “standard course” in the legal proceeding and that it does “not indicate that a settlement is in progress.”
The filing notes each party must provide a final list of attendees by Oct. 12. Lead trial counsel and negotiators from all sides are required to attend. The WGA and Paramount must also bring those who have “full authority to negotiate and settle the case,” excluding the latter’s board of directors.
They also must be prepared to discuss issues relating to their settlement objectives, any impediments to a deal and the “possibility of a creative resolution of the dispute.” The discussions will be overseen ...
