ATHENS, Ga. — Brent Venables did not try to sell Oklahoma's 41-13 loss at Georgia as some moral victory dressed up in process language.
He also did not pretend the building would be calm this week.
After a 28-point beatdown in Athens, Venables leaned on the word family, then immediately admitted what that actually means when a team has just embarrassed itself on the road in its SEC opener.
"People are pissed," Venables said. "You have to be able to have honest conversations within your family. That's what a normal family should do."
That is the only healthy place to start after a game like this. Oklahoma did not lose because Georgia made one more play at the end. The Sooners lost because they turned the ball over four times, could not run it, generated almost no defensive disruption, and spent the afternoon burying themselves.
If anybody inside the facility is calm about that, that would be a bigger problem than the final score.
Venables at least left room for the anger.
