An ordinance formally establishing Pitt County’s Consolidated Human Services Agency has been approved and will go in effect Oct. 1.
The Pitt County Board of Commissioners approved the ordinance and appointed 12 people to the new consolidated human services board during its Monday meeting. Eleven were part of a group appointment and the 12th, a psychiatric representative, was submitted separately.
The majority of the new board’s members will have four-year terms, but the occupants of three seats — a social worker representative and two recipients of health and social services assistance — will have staggered two-year terms.
A total of 15 people will serve on the new board, the majority representing specific professions within the fields of medicine and public health: a medical doctor, a psychiatrist, a registered nurse, a social worker, a veterinarian, an optometrist, a dentist, an engineer, a pharmacist and a psychologist.
Four will be clients who receive services of the health and social services departments.
One county commissioner also will serve on the board.
