Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the Indian women's cricket team after they lifted the Women's Asia Cup 2026 title. Team India beat Sri Lanka Women by 72 runs in the final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 13, 2026, securing their eighth Asia Cup crown.
India built the victory on a commanding batting display. Shafali Verma struck 68 off 39 balls, and Smriti Mandhana contributed 59 off 39 balls as India posted 183 for 5. Sri Lanka were then bowled out for 111, with left-arm spinner Shree Charani returning figures of 4 for 20 and Deepti Sharma claiming 3 wickets. The win also settled a score from the 2024 Asia Cup final, in which Sri Lanka had defeated India.
Posting on X after Harmanpreet Kaur-led team's commanding victory, Modi highlighted the team's collective effort across the tournament and expressed pride in the achievement.
