The spread of Bactericera cockerelli, a psyllid that transmits the disease complex known as "punta morada," threatens 125,000 hectares of potato cultivation in Peru, according to the International Potato Center (CIP). Potential crop losses are estimated at 98,884 tons, representing US$109 million in agricultural value.
