The Poway City Council honored the Poway Girls Softball League’s 60 years of existence with a proclamation recognizing Sept. 15, 2026 as the league’s anniversary day in Poway.
While reading the proclamation on behalf of the Poway City Council, Mayor Steve Vaus said the Poway Girls Softball League offers girls the opportunity to compete and grow, and to build confidence, leadership skills and an appreciation for physical activity.
“Generations of volunteers have given their time and talent in support of young athletes,” Vaus said. “The 60th anniversary recognizes the remarkable history and impact on players and their families.”
Since the league’s founding in 1967, it has grown to a membership of about 300 girls, said league President Jen Conole.
Girls ranging from 4 to 14 years old usually play recreational softball games at Aubrey Park near Old Poway Park and will soon return to the renovated fields at Lake Poway, Conole said. They also play competitive games throughout the region and in areas such as Los Angeles, Irvine, Oregon and Washington.
Making the anniversary more special is the league’s first ever state championship win last summer.
