STORRS, CONN. — Quinnipiac women’s ice hockey began its 2026-27 campaign with a successful hour-long venture to Storrs, Conn. Saturday afternoon, taking down the host UConn Huskies 3-2 in an exhibition matchup.
“It’s nice to have a tight game like that; it’s fun to play a really strong team,” Quinnipiac head coach Cass Turner said.
Looking to avenge a 4-3 loss at the hands of the Huskies last season and extend their winning streak in Storrs to five straight games, the Bobcat offense opened the day strong.
After an arduous and scoreless first few minutes, the ice was eventually broken following a giveaway by sophomore goaltender Taylor Belchetz right at the doorstep.
Unable to corral a save stemming from Quinnipiac’s third shot of the day, junior forward Avery Bairos won the race to the loose puck and chipped it over the outstretched arm of Belchetz for Quinnipiac’s first goal of the season.
“My mindset was just go hard and get that loose puck,” Bairos said. “I’m glad it went in, and I’m pretty excited to get that first one.”
