Home is where the heart is for Friday’s schedule of high school football games across the Kanawha Valley.
Only Winfield, which travels to Magoffin County (Kentucky) on Friday, has a bus trip out of the Valley this week, with everyone else getting home games or, at least, traveling within Kanawha or Putnam counties.
That list of home teams includes Sissonville, which will host Clay County at 7 p.m. at Joe Sawyers Stadium.
Sissonville, under coach Mikey Hughes, improved to 3-0 with a 28-27 win over Scott last week in Madison. Each of the Indians' wins has been by nine points or fewer.
Friday’s contest against the Panthers looks to be another tough one as Sissonville is facing a team that suffered its first loss last time out with a 55-7 defeat at home to Roane County.
“They’re an extremely well-coached team. Much more balanced than they have been in the past,” Hughes said of the Panthers.
After throwing for 134 yards against Midland Trail and 192 yards in a win over Poca, Clay County quarterback Cooper Collins was limited to 56 yards against the Raiders on 6-of-19 passing.
