Liberal Activists Gather at White House to Protest the Firing of FBI Director James Comey
In response to President Donald Trump's decision to dismiss FBI Director James Comey late Tuesday, various progressive groups organized a protest at the White House gates on Wednesday. The demonstration, co-hosted by MoveOn.org, Indivisible, Americans Against Trump, and other activist organizations, commenced at noon and lasted approximately an hour before participants dispersed. Leaders from the Center for American Progress and MoveOn.org addressed the crowd, leading chants such as "this is what hypocrisy looks like." MoveOn.org Campaign Director Jo Comerford expressed concerns about a potential constitutional crisis, emphasizing that Comey was overseeing a significant investigation into Trump. The protesters also collected over 900,000 signatures via an online petition urging Congress to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Trump's alleged connections with Russian officials. Trump stated in a public letter that Comey had assured him on three occasions that he was not under investigation.
