One more loss will give them their fourth consecutive 100-loss season, and they are almost certainly going to finish with the worst record in baseball.
These are absurd times for the Rockies, so I have devised an appropriately absurd rule to help them out.
The team with the worst record in baseball gets to steal one player from a playoff team.
There are, naturally, some restrictions. We're freezing the playoff field as it stood before games on Sunday, September 20. The player has to come from one of those 12 teams, cannot be a pending free agent, and you cannot take the player who leads his team in FanGraphs WAR. The Rockies also inherit the player's existing contract.
No, one player is not suddenly turning the Rockies into a contender. But could one poached superstar at least keep this thing from becoming five consecutive 100-loss seasons?
