Local residents of St. Mary's County have long been familiar with the legend of Moll Dyer, and now a regional filmmaker aims to bring greater awareness to her story through an upcoming short film expected to be completed within the next year. Director Paul Awad and his wife, Katherine O'Sullivan, are currently producing a 70-minute feature that explores the life and demise of Moll Dyer, a figure associated with a brutal winter and flu outbreak in the late 17th century. According to local lore, a mob set fire to her home, but she narrowly escaped the flames only to be discovered days later frozen to a rock.
