Retired Captain Karen Corson of the United States Navy, a Wedowee resident, was presented with the Legion of Merit award Tuesday. Wadley police chief Phillip Hancock presented the award to Corson, whose parents Ken and Sarah were also on hand for the presentation.
Captain Corson retired earlier this year after serving 26 years in the Navy. She finished her career as the Deputy Director and Director for Public Health, Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery from July 2023 through June 2026. It was in that role where her actions earned her this distinguished honor.
According to the official citation presented to Corson along with the medal, “She directed the development of critical health and safety standards for the Australia-United Kingdom-United States Trilateral Security Partnership, enabling a ...
