The matchup features the only two programs to receive first-place votes in the CAA preseason poll. Rhode Island received 12 first-place votes and was the unanimous pick to win the conference, with coaches unable to vote for their own teams. Stony Brook received one first-place vote and was picked to finish fifth.
The Rams are coming off an 11-3 season and an outright CAA championship in 2025, while the Seawolves enter their third season under head coach Billy Cosh.
