PORTSMOUTH – Richard Thomas Vaughan, 79, passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2026 in a local hospital. He was born on March 30, 1947 to the late Thomas and Dorothy Vaughan. Richard was a Vietnam veteran and retired from the Norfolk naval Shipyard after 38 years of service.
When he wasn’t working, watching football or NASCAR races, you could find him at 7-11 with the morning coffee crew, talking with friends and neighbors.
As a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he will be deeply missed by his family.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Penny; his son, Brandon Vaughan; and two grandchildren, Jacob and Rylan Vaughan.
A graveside service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, September 19, 2026 at Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Chesapeake.
