Mentor defeated Riverside, 35-14, in a key Greater Cleveland Conference game in Week 5. But one of the most electric plays of the weekend came from Riverside junior Jaxon Moore.
Taking a handoff wide right in the third quarter, Moore was walled off by Mentor defenders and spun 360 degrees in what looked to be a big loss. But Moore escaped, ran far to the left and scored on a 10-yard touchdown run on a play in which he ran probably more than 50 yards.
The play made Coach Jeremy Ishmael smile and shake his head.
“You know, I love that kid,” he said. “But I think he’s taking years off my life. He has all the ability in the world. I tell him a lot, ‘Trust your speed. One cut and go.’ But it’s hard for me to tell him that when he makes plays like that one. He’s a special athlete. It’s going to be fun to see him develop over the next year, year-and-a-half.”
