John Marshall graduate Jayden Veney commits to playing Division I hockey for Army West Point. Following a successful run in the BCHL playoffs this spring, the Rochester native drew attention from college scouts. The 6-foot-7 defenseman announced his decision to join the Black Knights on Sunday. Unbeknownst to Veney, Army's men's hockey coaching staff had been monitoring his progress for three years. Despite a coaching change after last season—when head coach Brian Riley retired and assistant Zach McKelvie took over—they maintained their interest in Veney. "They told me they've been watching me since my time at JM, which I didn't realize," said the 2024 graduate, who weighs 225 pounds. "They appreciated my size and said I’m a strong skater capable of influencing games." Veney expressed gratitude for the opportunity, confirming he will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in fall 2026.
