Watch enthusiasts were in for a little treat today as Rolex surprised everyone with a new model inspired by the reference 8171. The watch brings a full calendar and moonphase back to the Rolex lineup and features a design based on the 1908 collection. Available in Everose Gold or Platinum, the 39mm watch features a dial with grained and satin finishes plus a blue center hand with a crescent moon-shaped tip.
At 12 o’clock, two apertures display the day and month while the moonphase at 6 o’clock features a full moon and a new moon, the latter being finished in a dark blue PVD coating. The moons are also accompanied by pad printed silver stars and both moons are made from meteorite.
Powering the watch is Rolex’s calibre 7190, an automatic movement with an all-new Haplos system. This system backs the instantaneous annual calendar that only needs to be adjusted once a year during the transition from February to March and it also allows for the day, date, and month to instantly change over at midnight. Highly resistant to magnetic fields, this movement also features a Dynapulse escapement, a Syloxi silicon hairspring, and a power reserve of 66 hours.
