On Saturday, the Magellan Race was held.
The Magellan Race is unlike any other race. We do not race in just one spot, we try to tour the lake south of the bridges. The Race Pro for this year’s race was Karen/David Meehan. On patrol were Jake/Sarah Nill and Monica/Steve Sawyer.
The theme this year was "Pirates", and there were a lot of pirate costumes out on the racecourse. Thank you, all! It was a great day to race!
This year’s course was Port Roundings: Course B, around marks 3-9-8-1-5-7-6-2-4 to the Finish Line. The start and finish line were off the dock at Deep Creek Lake Sailing Association (DCLSA), i.e Mark “3”. Mark “9” was in the vicinity of Deep Creek Yacht Club (DCYC), Mark “8” was near Green Glade Cove, Mark “1” was near Poland Run and Mark “5” was near Thousand Acres.
Mark “7” was near the Glendale Bridge. Mark “6” was near Paradise Point, Mark “2” was near Holy Cross, and Mark “4” is south of the Blakeslee Docks.
Seventeen boats were racing including two ILCAs (Formally known as Laser). Almost everyone but the Gold Fleet Sailors started first at 11 a.m., then five minutes later the Gold Fleet sailors started. Six minutes later, the over-early sailors David Tuel/Ray Gau...
