DULUTH — Duluth East junior Sam Bauers was already headed up-field when the Greyhound defense won a ball on the back end against Duluth Denfeld Thursday at Marv Heikkinen Field at Walt Hunting Stadium.
The East defenders did well the entire game to win balls back when they lost possession, and it was the case with about 12 minutes to play.

“We won it and were able to go forward right away,” Bauers said. “Then Noah Mayer did a good job playing the end and recognizing the defense was out of position. I’m just glad I was able to capitalize on that.”
The goal clinched a 3-1 win for East over a Denfeld side that allowed nothing easy, according to coach Charlie Forsyth.
“They played a heck of a first half,” he said. “They were pressing the ball really hard and not really giving us any time on the ball — which we really excel at.”
East took the lead early when Taavi Salmela scored in the 5th minute, but the Hunters’ Charlie Vidovic answered with a “great goal,” according to Forsyth. Will Kapsner scored late in the first half for the Greyhounds and Bauers’ goal clinched the win.
