Maryland Environmental Service Appoints Sandra Hertz as Deputy Director August 4, 2025 — The Maryland Environmental Service (MES) has announced the appointment of Sandra Hertz as its new Deputy Director. Selected by MES Executive Director Dr. Charles C. Glass, P.E., with approval from Governor Wes Moore, Hertz assumes responsibilities for guiding overall agency performance, ensuring financial health, and shaping strategic initiatives, while exploring new opportunities within the state. Hertz joins MES following her role at the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT), where she recently established and led the Office of Climate Change Resilience and Adaptation. With over three decades of experience, she specializes in converting environmental challenges into effective solutions, managing environmental policies, and fostering technological innovation through interagency collaborations.
