Sarasota judge cited in crash that led to reassignment

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Sarasota Circuit Judge Thomas Krug was involved in a same-direction sideswipe crash on Fruitvale Road on Aug. 25, according to law enforcement.

Sarasota Police issued the judge two traffic citations, one for careless driving and one for leaving the scene of a crash without giving required information. He has not been criminally charged.

ABC7 obtained body camera video of the woman who says her car was hit through a public records request. The video has been blurred to conceal the driver’s identity.

“I feel, I feel in my body the, the break. Okay. And what’s, what’s for this side? He, he going to move from the middle. Yeah. And he break me. Okay,” the woman said.

“Nobody ever pulled over. Zero that I see any cars. So I’m thinking to myself, no, no, nothing happened,” the woman said.

The judge told police later he didn’t think he had been in a crash.

ABC7 has reached out to Judge Krug but has not heard back.

Krug was reassigned from criminal court to family court last week.
