Sedex Seeks SSCI Certification for SMETA 7.0 Audit Framework
Sedex has initiated the process to benchmark its SMETA 7.0 social audit methodology with the Sustainable Supply Chain Initiative (SSCI), a move that underscores its commitment to transparency and industry standards. The SSCI, established by The Consumer Goods Forum (CGF), aims to foster trust in sustainability benchmarks worldwide by endorsing and recognizing various auditing and certification programs.
This benchmarking applies to SMETA 7.0 within the categories of 'Manufacturing & Processing' and 'Primary Production,' providing an independent evaluation of its methodology. Such recognition would bolster confidence among stakeholders by validating SMETA's rigor through an impartial, third-party process, including public consultation and expert reviews.
The integration of SMETA into the SSCI framework reflects the increasing demand for supply chain due diligence across global sectors. Currently, SSCI has recognized seven schemes, with additional programs under review.
