The United States Senate officially approved Susan Monarez as the new Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on July 28. Appointed by President Donald Trump after the withdrawal of his initial candidate, Dr. Dave Weldon, Monarez holds a Ph.D. in microbiology and immunology and has extensive experience in public health and biosecurity within the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
