San Francisco Opera is set to kick off its 103rd season with a fresh staging of Giuseppe Verdi’s iconic opera, Rigoletto. The production will run from September 5 to September 27, 2025, at the War Memorial Opera House.
The season launch features the Opera Ball on September 5, in partnership with the San Francisco Opera Guild, followed by the premiere of Rigoletto conducted by Eun Sun Kim, the company's Music Director.
Directed by Jose Maria Condemi, the acclaimed production showcases sets inspired by surrealist artist Giorgio de Chirico. Scenic design by Michael Yeargan is complemented by costumes created by Constance Hoffman and lighting designed by Mark McCullough, with staging revived by Justin A. Partier. The show also features choreography by Colm Seery and chorus direction by John Keene.
Baritone Amartuvshin Enkhbat returns to San Francisco as the troubled jester Rigoletto, following his debut in Un Ballo in Maschera in 2024. Romanian soprano Adela Zaharia takes on the role of Gilda, with Yongzhao Yu making his company debut as the Duke of Mantua.
