The Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American History has removed a reference to President Donald Trump from its impeachment exhibit following pressure from the White House. The museum's spokesperson stated that an updated version of the exhibit will include information on all presidential impeachments in the future. Originally, in September 2021, a temporary label concerning Trump's impeachments was installed to address current events, but it remained until July 2025. Additionally, in March, President Trump signed an executive order calling for the removal of content deemed divisive or anti-American from Smithsonian institutions. Although primarily funded by Congress, the Smithsonian operates independently. The incident follows the resignation of Kim Sajet as director of the National Portrait Gallery after publicly criticizing Trump. Trump was impeached twice but was not removed from office, and the exhibit notes that only three presidents—Andrew Johnson, Bill Clinton, and Richard Nixon—have faced significant removal efforts.
