Solicitor: 3 arrested, 4th sought in ‘targeted’ shooting that killed Spartanburg baby
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (FOX Carolina) - Two men and a juvenile have been arrested in connection to a targeted shooting that killed a 7-month-old baby in Spartanburg, according to the 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
Officials said Christopher Mallory and Darius Wight were both denied bond on charges of murder, discharging a firearm into a dwelling, and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.
A juvenile suspect was also charged, and investigators are actively searching for a fourth suspect, according to the solicitor’s office.
Prosecutors said the deadly shooting happened on Aug. 2, 2025, at an apartment along Collins Avenue. Seven-month-old Zymir Demarco Smith was asleep in bed next to his mother when multiple suspects opened fire on both levels of the home.
Investigators recovered 17 shell casings from the scene. One of the rounds fatally struck Zymir.
Officials noted that Mallory also faces pending murder and attempted murder charges in an unrelated case.
