During World Space Week, architecture expands its frontiers. The new space race raises a fundamental question for those designing today: how do we imagine, build, and inhabit beyond Earth?
From October 5 to 8, 2026, the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism at the University of Buenos Aires will host Space Architecture Week, a Latin American gathering that will bring together architecture, science, technology, and design.
Through workshops, a space architecture hackathon, international guests, talks, interviews, and exhibitions, students, professionals, and specialists will explore new ways of inhabiting the Moon, Mars, and other extreme environments. The program will address topics such as extraterrestrial habitats, digital fabrication, artificial intelligence, new materials, energy, and resource management.
Designing for other worlds also allows us to rethink how we inhabit our own. The challenges of space can inspire solutions for building better, using our resources responsibly, and responding to Earth's environmental problems.
