U.S. Space Force and Air Force Reserve Announce New Part-Time Integration Initiative
Leaders of the U.S. Space Force and Air Force Reserve unveiled details earlier this month regarding a new initiative to integrate part-time personnel into the active-duty Space Force.
Current Options for Reservists
Currently, space-oriented reservists have options such as retirement, retraining through the Air Force Reserve, or transferring to the Space Force. However, recent legislation from 2024 restricts them from remaining in their existing roles.
Units Affected and Proposed Model
Most of these reservists operate within the 310th Space Wing at Schriever Space Force Base, a unit scheduled for inactivation. The proposed model to incorporate part-time personnel will differ from traditional Reserve structures, which typically involve monthly training assemblies and dedicated missions. Instead, the new approach, discussed during a town hall at Peterson Space Force Base, will offer episodic roles without a career pathway similar to the Reserve.
