Spokane County Advances Expansion of Behavioral Health Facilities Using Opioid Settlement Funds
Spokane County, Washington, is taking significant steps to enhance its addiction and mental health services. The county intends to allocate millions from opioid settlement funds toward this effort, as reported by the Spokesman-Review.
Documents outline plans for a regional stabilization center, a facility already assisting individuals in crisis. In May of last year, county officials approved a $5.2 million budget to improve local treatment resources.
Currently, an $11.5 million project is in progress to develop a new 17,000-square-foot building dedicated to crisis relief. Unlike the existing stabilization center, which provides immediate short-term support, the new center aims to deliver a wider array of services with a focus on long-term recovery.
The project remains in the preliminary development phase, allowing city authorities to review and approve the proposal before construction permits are granted. If approved, this expansion could substantially boost Spokane's capacity to serve residents facing mental health and addiction crises.
