A fire engine from the St. Louis Fire Department was involved in a collision on I-44 shortly after responding to a prior accident on Sunday morning. The incident occurred near Jamieson at approximately 8:30 a.m., resulting in traffic delays and a reduction to a single lane.
According to Fire Captain David Neighbors, two fire units initially responded to the first crash, with one investigating the scene and the other providing traffic control. As the traffic control unit was departing, a Jeep collided with it from behind, causing the vehicle to overturn onto its side.
The Jeep driver and two firefighters sustained minor injuries and were transported to the hospital; all were released by midday. Authorities from the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department indicated that the crash could have been more severe and urged drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution by moving over when approaching emergency scenes.
