A spectator at a Major League Soccer match in St. Louis was removed from the stadium after wearing a "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) hat. The individual, identified as Michael Weitzel in a video posted to X (formerly Twitter), was watching the game at Energizer Park, home of St. Louis City SC, when he was approached by security personnel. They instructed him to leave, citing the stadium's policy against political displays.
Weitzel commented, "I'm being asked to leave because of Donald Trump; we can't wear Trump hats publicly, so now I'm being asked to leave." He questioned security about the presence of pride flags and transgender banners at the event, which they claimed were "preapproved," and stated the rules against political symbols are applied uniformly.
According to MLS guidelines, displays intended for electioneering or political advocacy are prohibited. When Weitzel asked if he could remain if he removed his hat, security indicated he could, but a voice off-camera suggested the situation was already beyond that point, leading to his departure.
