The Starmont Stars picked up their first win of the 2026 football season Friday night with a commanding 36-7 victory over the North Butler Bearcats in Greene.
Starmont’s Hudson Popham had a spectacular game on both sides of the ball. The junior scored three rushing touchdowns on 63 yards and led the Stars on defense with ten solo tackles.
Starmont got on the board on their first offensive drive on a 42-yard run by sophomore Anthony Ramirez to put the Stars up 8-0 with just under three minutes taken off the clock.
The Bearcats answered early in the second quarter when Wade Wangsness hit Jack Bartels on a deep route for a 39-yard touchdown completion, cutting the Stars’ lead to 8-7.
Starmont began their first drive of the second quarter on their own 25-yard line and efficiently moved the ball down-field with big gains. Jax Tommasin connected with Luka Recker for a 26-yard pickup and Ramirez gained another 23 yards to give the Stars first and goal at the two. From there, Popham bulled his way into the endzone for his second TD of the night, giving Starmont a 15-7 lead with 6:41 remaining in the first half.
