Stephen D. McCarthy RUTLAND — Stephen Daniel McCarthy, 65, passed away in Jacksonville, Florida on August 21, 2026. Born on April 23, 1961 in Rutland, Vermont, to Raymond and June McCarthy, Stephen was raised alongside his three siblings- Michael (Janet), Judy, and Daniel (Chanda) McCarthy. Later, Stephen would join the United States Army, serving eight years in the 101st Airborne division across the United States. He was honorably discharged and went on to work at the Marble Valley Regional Correctional Facility as a Corrections Officer. During this time he also raised his children and met his future wife, Linda. After 29 years of service to MVRCC, Stephen fulfilled his lifelong dream of retiring to Florida, where he worked at Walmart and spent much time enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Stephen was a man of many passions, to include his love for antiquing, Disney World, collecting magnifying glasses, and metal detecting. He also had an unwavering love for the animals in his life, specifically for his cats Lucy and Oliver.
