Storm knocks out power for thousands in area, proceeds as predicted

Although the weekend storm halfway through Saturday had left a few thousand in the region without power, a leading state meteorologist said the wind and rain came as predicted, with about 1.5 inches of rain falling in the southeast. Montville and Ledyard were standouts for power outage numbers. About 2,000 Eversource customers in Montville lost power, and about 1,400 in Ledyard as of about 3 p.m. Saturday, according to Eversource's outage map. Ledyard Mayor Fred Allyn posted to Facebook saying about 800 of those outages could be restored with one repair, but also warned that the storm's worst is yet to come. Montville Police Sgt. Travis Sumpf said the only closure in town was Old Colchester Road between Moxley Road and Hillcrest Drive, and that overall, there wasn't much storm damage a little after 3 p.m. Saturday.
