Melbourne Storm and North Sydney Bears centre Marion Seve has shared the harrowing details of a severe eye injury that nearly ended his rugby league career. He has now made history as the first top-level player to compete while wearing protective goggles.
The Injury Incident
The 30-year-old sustained the injury during a NSW Cup match against Penrith at North Sydney Oval in early June. He was accidentally hit in the eye by a boot stud during a tackle attempt.
"My vision went white, and I could only perceive shadows. I felt something flapping inside my eye and eyelid. Then, my sight turned black, and I couldn't see at all. I started to worry," Seve explained to the Daily Telegraph.
"I was diving to make a tackle when the boot stud came straight into my eye. It hit me directly on the eyeball."
