Thursday's strong rain, thunder and lightning storm resulted in continued flooding on Friday throughout Madison County.
As a result the Madison County Sheriff's Office closed the South Snake River Road, reported the office.
“The roadway will likely remain closed throughout the weekend as weather conditions continue,” it said. “Please do not drive around or move road-closure signs or barricades. Flooded roads can have washouts, unstable shoulders, debris, or damage that may not be visible from the roadway. For your safety, please avoid the area and use an alternate route.
The National Weather Service predicted more rain for Friday.
“Rainfall amounts in excess of 0.50” are possible, leading to flooding within burn scars, steep terrain and urban areas,” it said.
Friday night the service predicted a 70% chance of more showers and thunderstorms after 10 p.m.
On Saturday, the service expected more rain.
“Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 2 p.m.,” it said. “Chance of precipitation is 60%.”
Next week the service predicted sunny skies for Madison County.
Thursday’s storm was so powerful that the National Weather Service warned about flash flooding throughout the region.
