Suicide Prevention Month: How parents can check in with their kids

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) -- September is National Suicide Prevention Month, serving as an important reminder for parents to check in on their children's mental health.

According to the CDC, suicide was the second-leading cause of death among people ages 10 to 24 in 2023.

The chief clinical officer of Bend Health spoke with Action News about how parents can approach difficult conversations with their children about mental health.

If you or someone you know is in emotional distress or considering suicide, call the National Suicide and Crisis Lifeline at 988 or 1-800-273-TALK (8255).

Parents looking for mental health care for their children can also find resources at BendHealth.com.
