To the editor: “We the people will never forget the cowards in Congress who kept quiet. Vote them out.” When we saw this statement recently, we thought, “that’s how we feel about Sen. Dan Sullivan and Rep. Nick Begich, who are running for reelection to represent Alaska.”
When President Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth invaded Iran without congressional approval, they said nothing. When immigrants were sent to other countries or continents without due process, no comment. When Hegseth ordered “drug boats” blown up, killing almost 200 people, without arrests and convictions, they said nothing. When long-standing aid to other countries to prevent starvation, disease, and migration was eliminated, they said nothing. When the president makes deals to buy Russian diesel, and then ignores the new sanctions that Congress passed last month, giving communist Russia an economic lifeline in the war against Ukraine’s democracy, no comment.
