Superior HealthPlan, a prominent managed care organization in Texas and part of Centene Corporation, has invested a total of $18 million over a five-year span—from 2020 to 2024—to provide over-the-counter (OTC) products as an added benefit for its Medicaid and CHIP members. These Value-added Services aim to support low-income individuals and families across all 254 Texas counties. According to Mitch Wasden, CEO of Superior HealthPlan, "The supplementary benefits we offer are vital for enhancing our members' overall health and wellness. Over time, we've seen how impactful OTC items can be for the families we serve, and we're committed to meeting these needs." Eligible members of programs such as STAR, CHIP, STAR Kids, STAR Health, and certain STAR+PLUS plans can receive quarterly allowances of either $25 or $30 for commonly used OTC products. These include items like digestive aids, eye, ear, and oral care products, household cleaning supplies, personal hygiene items, and sun protection products.
