Teammates make 16-year-old lacrosse player’s dream come true after her sudden death
SANDY, Utah (KSTU) - A group of generous high school lacrosse players from Utah came together to finish their 16-year-old teammate’s dream backyard after she died suddenly.
It was 16-year-old Alyia Argyle’s dream to clean up her mom’s backyard, but that dream was cut short Aug. 21 when the teen, who had epilepsy, experienced a seizure that took her life.
With Alyia gone the backyard felt quiet until Saturday when her Alta High School lacrosse teammates showed up to finish what she started. They wanted to make a garden oasis where Alyia’s family can gather to remember her.
“I met Alyia my freshman year when I started playing lacrosse. She was the most happy, kind, funny person ever,” said Hannah Qureshi, Alyia’s best friend. “I just want to be here to support her family and make what dreams she had and projects she was doing come true.”
Alyia’s mom, Melissa Christensen, says her daughter was “a ray of sunshine” who would have loved her teammates’ kind gesture.
