Comtrend Wi-Fi 7 XGS-PON Gateways Clear Key FCC Regulatory Hurdle
Comtrend has received conditional approval from the US Federal Communications Commission for its new Wi-Fi 7 XGS-PON ONT GRG-4366u and Wi-Fi 7 Ethernet gateway PRT-7302/VG-8043u. The decision excludes the specific models from restrictions associated with the FCC Covered List, allowing the company to proceed with the certification process required for commercial deployment in the US. XGS-PON provides 10 Gbps-class passive optical network connectivity, while Wi-Fi 7 enables service providers to extend multi-gigabit fiber performance deeper into customer premises. The combination is particularly relevant as US fiber operators introduce faster broadband tiers but need upgraded residential gateways capable of distributing those speeds wirelessly. Comtrend says the regulatory milestone forms part of its strategy to expand its US broadband-equipment portfolio and service-provider presence.
