Recognition for Trooper Joseph Sherman
During the August meeting of the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), Trooper Joseph Sherman was officially awarded the Purple Heart in recognition of his injuries sustained while performing his duties.
Incident Details
On March 13, 2025, Troopers Joseph Sherman and Noah Thompson were managing traffic around a disabled commercial vehicle on Interstate 45 in Corsicana. While monitoring traffic from a grassy median as a wrecker worked on the disabled vehicle, a Ford F-250 unexpectedly veered off the road, crashing into their patrol unit and then heading toward the officers.
Injuries and Medical Treatment
Both Troopers were struck, with Trooper Sherman suffering serious injuries that required immediate hospital treatment. He underwent successful surgery to repair a fractured right tibia and remains under medical care as he recovers.
